Chalk Style Painting With Magnolia Home

I’m so excited to have been given the opportunity to try the new Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines Chalk Style Paint crafted with Kilz.

Everything I needed was sent to me! One quart of chalk style paint in the Shiplap color, four paint brushes from the same Magnolia Home line, a workshop apron, sanding block, An autographed copy of the Magnolia Story book with a wooden bookmark, all beautifully tucked inside a gorgeous wooden tray (which is ready and waiting to be chalk painted) created by a local artist in Waco!

I decided to paint my old (about 25 years) china cabinet!

I picked it apart in preparation to paint! Removed the shelves, doors, drawers, and hardware. Wiped it clean and taped off the glass.

Once the prep work was completed, I began painting! This paint was thick, creamy, and concentrated. Went on smoothly, covered beautifully, and dried quickly. I applied 2 to 3 coats of paint and one coat of clear wax!

I have used other brands of chalk paint ( Annie Sloan’s and Amy Howard ) and this by far is the very best one I’ve used! In comparison the Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines Chalk Style Paint had better coverage, a little went a long way! So you get more bang for your buck!

It also dries to a beautiful smooth matte finish that’s durable which allowed me to paint right over the mirrored back. Also, when reinstalling the tracks for the sliding doors, they needed to be hammered into place. The paint withstood the pounding from a wooded mallet!

Such a fun weekend project that transformed and updated this old cabinet into a family heirloom piece that I will treasure forever.

Already planning my next project! So stay tuned and check back soon!
